This paper presents a historical outlook of the scientific and academic track of, at least, two disciplines that used to work together on palaeoenvironment its transformation since humans’ appearance. inter multidisciplinary practice became consolidated as zooarchaeological research line currently has great development not only in Argentina but also world. In this long history, Ameghino’s ideas have been proven steadily present. Our goal is display main concepts from interdisciplinary production biologists archaeologists working Pampean Patagonian regions.

In this work, a contrast index for quantifying the perceived contrast in an image is proposed. The index is based on Weber’s law and takes into account background estimation through the erosion of opening by reconstruction. The performance of our proposal is illustrated with a set of images processed by contrast mapping and compared with two contrast measures given in the literature.
